Developmental Specialist

SUMMARY:

The Developmental Specialist is responsible for providing the direct support to the individuals in the Day Habilitation program and for all the case management duties required by regulation. Promotes and adheres to the mission and values espoused by MAB Community Services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following and other duties as assigned:

  • Provide case management duties for a case load as assigned.
  • Work with the interdisciplinary team to develop a day hab support plan and oversee its implementation.
  • Responsible for completing the documentation requirements of DMA including billing information, daily data, progress notes, monthly summaries and other required treatment plan related documentation.
  • Coordinate day habilitation services ensuring active treatment.
  • Assess individuals’ satisfaction with services through observations and surveys.
  • Participate in all intakes and needs assessment activities.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assists the Day Hab Program Director in providing supervision to paraprofessionals.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Must have a bachelor’s degree in a human services-related field and must have at least one year of experience in a training program for individuals with mental retardation or developmental disabilities. As an alternative to a degree, must have at least two (2) years of work experience in a training program for persons with either mental retardation or developmental disabilities.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:

Frequent walking, standing and driving. Must be able to maintain a high level of energy in a fast paced environment. Must be able to lift and/or carry such articles as files, records and adaptive devices. Must be able to physically assist in lifting and transferring individuals who require such assistance. Must be able to physically implement safety restraint procedures in response to an emergency situation and/or implementation of treatment plans. Must be able to apply First Aid and CPR.

EMOTIONAL EFFORT:

Frequent short deadlines require a high degree of flexibility. The work environment is frequently hectic, fast paced with periods of high stress. Must be able to calmly and analytically respond as well as direct staff under crisis situations. Must be able to tolerate and intervene with individuals during potentially dangerous and/or crisis situations.
